Mid 19th Century Settlers Exhibit

By Thoom Zech
Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

For this Museum Exhibit titled “The Land of My Dreams”, Custom Creation designed, built and installed the scenic elements for permanent display at the Capitol Visitors Center.

This full scale interpretive scene included a dock and gangplank, walkthrough covered wagon, a section of a log cabin and a representation of a settlement home.

Extensive research went into the look and feel of this mid 19th century time period to provide a realistic view for visitors to explore hands-on, how the early pioneers settled into Texas.

Rolling Modular Docent Desk

By Custom Creation
Sunday, December 15th, 2013

The Texas Military Forces Museum wanted an area where they could meet, greet and provide information to guest visiting their museum. Custom Creation designed, fabricated, delivered and installed a rolling modular circular desk for Docents use at the entry to this Military Museum with dimensional lettering.

This Docent Desk had to have enough storage space for a computer, phone, handouts, books and materials related to their Museum Exhibit. Designing a rolling modular circular desk made it easier to move and reposition the desk to any given area. It also allowed Docents to oversee the exhibit space while providing easier access of materials to visitors.

Trade Show Tips

Trade Show Tips

Consider Renting a Trade Show Booth

A rental is a good way to test trade show marketing. Not every show is the same size. When you attend a few shows that are a very different size from your usual ones, a rental can fill the difference. Small booth rentals are the most common, but larger islands are easy to find, too.

Do a Trade Show “Post-Mortem”

Compare the leads to ones gathered by other marketing vehicles. Did the pre-show marketing get out on time; did it get to the right people; did attendees mention it? How was your booth’s presence compared to your competitors? What needs to change for the next show?

Prioritize Trade Show Leads

Too many wind up in a folder. Follow-up promptly after the show. Do what you said you would do: send literature, call, schedule a meeting, etc.

Trade Show Staff Dos

Listen more than you talk. Take notes. Be curious. Be alert. Ask questions.

Trade Show Staff Don’ts

Don’t eat or drink in the booth. You don’t want to be caught with a mouthful food or cleaning up a coffee spill when that big prospect you’ve been trying to talk to all year finally shows up.

Trade Show Staff Dos

Act like you want to be there. Keep your attention towards the aisle not down in your laptop. Conversations with other staffers is not as important as the attendees.

Trade Show Staff Dos

Have good open ended questions to start a conversation. Like: How do you use web service software? or What elements are important in your chemical process?

Set Up a Schedule for Long Shows

When the shows are more than a day, set up a schedule that rotates your staff. Not only to get lunch or a rest but just as important to keep up with their eMails and phone calls. Don’t forget business continues.

Train Your Trade Show Staff

Explain the lead form and tell them what’s important to capture. Your staff needs to know the current sales and marketing information as well as the products. Tell them what you expect for dress, attitude, and schedule.

Create a Good Lead Form for the Show

Get “qualifying” information from prospects at the show. Follow up promptly after the show. Lead forms should be specific to products, budget, decision maker, etc.

Give Attendees a Reason to See You

Pre-show promotions let customers and prospects know you will be there. Get attendee lists from previous years of the same show or from similar shows. Advertise in the magazines or websites that support or pre-view the show. Send out invitations to your current clients. Let them know you have a special promotion at your booth.

At large trade shows, many of the attendees only have one day and visit less than 20 booths. Get on their “must visit” list.

Get an Exhibit Display that Works

It should make the statement you want and help you with your goals. Do you need one that a single salesman can set up in an hour? Do you need storage space for product? Do you use conversation areas? Do you want a fun, exciting booth or a calm, secure booth?

Set Exhibit Objectives

Define your target. Give yourself plenty of time to plan how and what you will exhibit.

Do you have display materials that need better protection? We have cases for banners, posters, graphics, electronics and more. On the left are several of the molded plastic cases that come in a variety of sizes. We even have small banner stand styles. The large oval case is a typical case for a 10×10 pop-up style booth. It has wheels for easy handling and can have fabric wrapped around it to make a podium.

In the center are larger road cases. These are a tough enclosures with wheels and latches. Prefect for packing a variety of trade show material: electronics, literature, posters, booth tools and parts. We can customize them for a specific piece of equipment or leave them open to handle your changing needs.

On the right are the suitcase style cases. These work well for smaller pieces that need the best protection. These are just a few of the many cases we offer, give us a call with your needs.
